OUR STORY. OUR HISTORY.
Proudly serving Western Australians since 1992.
From our humble beginnings in Bellevue to becoming an established Western Australian pawnbroking and second-hand retail business, Cash City has built its reputation on experience, fair dealing and genuine customer service.
As a family-owned business, we're proud of our history, our people and the communities we've served along the way.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Cash City's story began in Bellevue, Western Australia, in 1992.
From its beginnings as a local family business, Cash City has grown into an established name in Western Australian pawnbroking and second-hand retail.
Over the years, the business has continued to evolve, but its commitment to fair dealing, practical financial solutions and genuine customer service has remained at the heart of what we do.

What We Stand For
What We Stand For
At Cash City, we believe trust is earned by the way you treat people and the way you look after their property.
We have been pawnbroking in Western Australia since 1992, and over that time we have built our business around security, reliability, family values and doing things properly.
Secure, Professional Storage
We take the storage of customers’ property seriously.
Wherever practical, items such as mobile phones, laptops, tools, jewellery and other valuables are stored securely in designated containers and organised storage areas.
We do not believe valuable property should simply be left sitting around on floors, benches or loose on shelves.
Our aim is simple: look after your property properly and return it to you in the same condition it arrived.
For larger items and vehicles, we use licensed secure storage yards with controlled access and video surveillance.
You Drive Your Own Vehicle
If you pawn a car, ute, 4WD, motorcycle or other vehicle with us, you drive your own vehicle to our secure storage yard.
Our staff do not drive customers’ vehicles to or from our storage facilities.
We believe that is the safest and most responsible way to handle your vehicle while it is in our care.
Licensed, Regulated and Accountable
Cash City operates as a licensed pawnbroker, licensed second-hand dealer and licensed motor vehicle dealer in Western Australia.
Pawnbroker Licence: 73890 Motor Vehicle Dealer Licence: 19372
We work within Western Australian pawnbroking, second-hand dealing and motor vehicle dealer requirements, together with our police reporting obligations.
We carefully record identifying information such as serial numbers, registration details and other important particulars, and use proper systems and equipment to ensure transactions are accurately documented.
We have worked with WA Police requirements for decades and take our licensing, security and compliance responsibilities seriously.
Security You Can See
Our stores, storage areas and yards use video surveillance and security systems to help protect customers’ property.
Valuable items are identified, recorded, handled carefully and stored securely while they are in our care.
A Family Business
Cash City has always had a strong family feeling.
We believe customers should be treated fairly, respectfully and without judgement.
Many people have dealt with us for years, and in some cases we now see different generations of the same families coming through our doors.
That long-term trust means a lot to us.
Reliable and Straightforward
We believe pawnbroking should be simple and easy to understand.
We explain the loan, the interest and what is expected before you agree to anything.
We believe in being straightforward with customers, keeping our word and doing what we say we are going to do.
Experience Matters
More than three decades in pawnbroking has taught us that the small things matter.
Proper records matter. Secure storage matters. Good systems matter. Licensing matters. Looking after people’s property matters.
Most importantly, how you treat people matters.
Secure storage. Proper records. Licensed facilities. Family values. Reliable service. Straightforward dealing.
That is what we stand for.
About Cash City
Our Family Story
The Cash City story began in the early 1980s, when Mum and Dad started a second-hand shop in Clayton Street, Bellevue.
In 1992, Mum, Dad and Brett bought the Guildford building and the existing pawnbroking business from the previous operator, Trader Micks. From there, the family established Guildford Pawnbrokers, later renamed Cash in a Flash, and eventually Cash City — a name Mum came up with.
Mum, Dad and Brett were the founders of Cash City in Guildford, and that original pawnbroking business became the foundation for what followed.
Later, other members of the family became involved in pawnbroking and established their own Cash City stores. Brett now operates the Guildford, Midland, Morley, Kelmscott and Northam stores. His brother John and John’s wife Pina operate the Balcatta and Joondalup stores, while his sister Emily and her husband Bruce Stockdale operate the Cannington and Belmont stores.
Brett’s sister Rebecca has also been part of the Cash City business for more than 20 years and has worked within the family operation throughout that time. Her long involvement is another important part of the family history behind Cash City.
Bruce has also developed software for the pawnbroking industry, combining practical industry experience with technology designed around the needs of pawnbrokers.
Although the stores are operated by different members of the family, Cash City is a name the family shares, with its beginnings firmly rooted in the original Guildford pawnbroking business founded by Mum, Dad and Brett.
Mum is still involved in the business today and remains an important part of the Cash City story.
Brett and Mum also travel to the United States each year to attend the major American pawnbroking convention, something they have been doing for the past seven years. It keeps them connected with the wider pawnbroking industry, new ideas, technology and developments overseas.
For the family, pawnbroking is more than simply a business. It has been part of family life for decades.
From a small second-hand shop in Bellevue to Cash City stores across Western Australia, a lot has changed over the years — but the family history behind the name remains the same.
